This tech note is applicable to computers running with Microsoft OS and applies to computers with Touch Screen and Pinpoint (or Serial GPS) The computer will experiencing erratic touch behavior when the Serial Cable from the Pinpoint is plugged into the computer and the computer is first turned on. =============================================================== 1. Pull the RS-232 cable off of the Pinpoint Modem 2. Start your computer 3. Right click on MY COMPUTER and bring up SYSTEM PROPERTIES 4. Select HARDWARE 5. Select DEVICE MANAGER 6. Locate MICE and OTHER POINTING DEVICES and EXPAND (+) 7. Plug your RS-232 Cable back into your modem 8. From the top of the Window, Select ACTION 9. Select SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES 10. You should see MICROSOFT SERIAL BALLPOINT (which is hidden) suddenly appear (Under the MICE and Other Point Devices) 11. Right click on the MICROSOFT SERIAL BALLPOINT to disable NOTE: The curser will start to jump around a bit, keep trying until you are able to right click and disable the Microsoft Serial Mouse 12. Restart the computer. 13. If the mouse is moving around too fast to be able to perform the above steps, you can slow it down to make the above changes. To do this: Go into Wireless Ace Select COMMON, Serial, S53. The value will be 4800,8n1 or higher. Change it to 2400,8n1 and write that value to the modem 14. Restart from step 1. The mouse movements will be slower; disable the SERIAL BALLPOINT. 15. When this is done, go back to Wireless Ace and set the value of S53 as it was previously. 16. You can go into Hyperterminal and you should continue to see data flowing from the GPS serial port. 17. As a final check, restart the computer, go back to Device Manager, Properties, Mice and Other devices and confirm that Microsoft SERIAL BALLPOINT is disabled
